Volhard Temperament Testing

NATIONALLY RECOGNIZED

This is a reliable way to find out your dog’s temperament tendencies.

Does your dog show tendencies toward anxiety, fear, aggression? Does your dog have a solid and
balanced temperament? Does your dog show good problem solving skills, or leadership tendencies?
Would your dog do well in a house with children? With elderly? With a chaotic environment? Need
calm, structure and routine?

The Volhard Temperament testing gives excellent insight into these types of questions. A series of
ten small tests will help determine:

social attraction
willingness to follow
restraint
social dominance
elevation
retrieving
touch sensitivity
sound sensitivity
sight sensitivity
Overall stability.

Virtual Training

There are many reasons people may need virtual training. This type of training skyrocketed during
and after the pandemic. The dog world also realized how effective this training can be. If it is
inconvenient for you to attend live training lessons, this convenience is just right for you. Through the
use of Zoom, FaceTime, or other virtual platforms, you can receive customized training in the comfort
of your own home. Additionally, this virtual methods allows for people to connect and train all across
the nation and the world.

Obedience Training

There are 3 levels of dog obedience training: Puppy, basic, advanced

Good manners and obedience is the goal of most people.

Puppies need things like potty training, crate training, sit, no nibbling, etc.
Basic obedience teaches everyday skills such as sit, stay, down, no jumping, no biting, recall, proper leash walking, etc.
Advanced training includes skills such as: doorbell etiquette, greeting guests properly, in-depth leash training, take it/leave it, and much more

Anxiety Management

Many dogs struggle with being confident in situations with other dogs, new people, being left alone, staying in their crate, separation anxiety, etc. This type of training desensitizes and equips both the dog and the owner on how to overcome, or at least improve in these situations.

Impulse Control

This type of training focuses on helping your dog to learn to control their impulses to run out the door, jump, bark, self-settle, etc.

Groomer Fear

For many dogs going to the groomer, or even bathing at home, are upsetting. In this course, the dog will be desensitized to grooming equipment such as nail trimming, brushing, combing, bathing, hairdryers, etc. Most dogs show much improvement and calmness after this course.

Deaf Dog Behavior & Obedience

Being able to effectively communicate with your special needs dog is so important and rewarding. Learn ways to use sign language and vibration to easily talk with your dog.

The America Kennel Club (AKC) is the original kind of structured obedience courses here in
the USA. Not only can you find a wealth of knowledge about different dog breeds, breeders, breed
temperaments, canine sports, and everyday practical knowledge, but AKC also offers several dog
training courses that are recognized all over the nation:

S.T.A.R. Puppy – Socialization, Training, Activity and Responsibility

NATIONALLY RECOGNIZED

This is the perfect 6-week course to learn how to get started with your new puppy or dog.
Each lesson will have two sections.
1) how to be a responsible dog owner,
2) Puppy behaviors including non-aggression toward people and other dogs

Canine Good Citizen (CGC)

NATIONALLY RECOGNIZED

The AKC Canine Good Citizen™ (CGC) is a 6-week program that
provides a perfect framework for training your dog to become a polite member of society. CGC classes
will help you and your dog learn the 10 skills in the program.
1. Accepting a friendly stranger
2. Sitting politely for petting
3. Touch sensitivity and examination
4. Walking on a loose leash
5. Walking politely through a crowd
6. Sit, lay down and stay on cue
7. Recall (coming when called)
8. Reacting politely to another dog
9. Reacting calmly to distraction
10. Reacting calmly to supervised separation

AKC Trick Dog

NATIONALLY RECOGNIZED

If you enjoy sporting with your dog, you may be interested in earning an AKC Trick Dog title. The novice training includes:

AKC Community Canine (CGCA)

NATIONALLY RECOGNIZED

AKC Community Canine Dogs who pass this 6-week course testing are eligible to earn the AKC’s “CGCA” title. To earn the CGCA title, the dog must be registered or listed with AKC (AKC number, PAL, or AKC Canine Partners number) and, already have a Canine Good Citizen® award/title on record.

Dog stands, sits or lies down and waits under control while the owner sits at the registration table and fills out paperwork, or, while the owner sits and has a snack or visits with someone (e.g., at a park).
Walks on a loose leash in a natural situation (not in a ring)-does not pull. left and right turn stop fast and slow pace
Walks on a loose leash through a crowd. This item is tested in a real crowd, not in a ring.
Dog walks past distractions present; does not pull.
Sit-stay in small group (3 other people with dogs). Owners and dogs are in an informal group while owners have a conversation.
Dog allows person who is carrying something (e.g., purse, computer case, backpack) to approach, pet it, and ask "May I pet your dog?” (Item is put on floor/ground before person pets dog)
“Leave it.” Dog walks by food and follows owner instructions, “Leave it.”
"Down-Stay" and "Sit-Stay" (owner’s choice) at a distance.
Recall with distractions present (coming when called). Handler goes out 20-ft. (off center) and callsdog. Dog comes past a distractor to return to handler.
Dog enters/exits a doorway or narrow passageway (on leash, with owner) in a controlled manner.

Service dog, Medical alert, Medical response:

This tier of working dogs learn specific tasks and behaviors to mitigate their owner’s disability
needs. They are like the Olympic athletes among dogs – as a matter of fact, only a fraction of
dogs born have the ability to lead the life of a service dog. This is not like morphing a pet dog
to become a service dog. I require that I test and choose the dog or puppy that you will need.
Training time is 18 mos. – 2 years.
ADA.gov states the laws that cover service dogs and their handlers.

Emotional Support Animal Training

While Emotional Support Animals or Comfort Animals are often used as part of a medical treatment
plan as therapy animals, they are not considered service animals under the ADA.

An emotional support animal is a type of assistance animal that helps mitigate the symptoms of mental or emotional disabilities such as depression, anxiety, and post traumatic stress. Such assistance animals are typically prescribed by a licensed mental health professional as part of an individual’s treatment plan. The prescription takes the form of an official document called an emotional support animal letter, also known as an ESA Letter. This document confirms that an individual has a legitimate need for the support that their companion animal provides and entitles them to certain rights under federal law.

Pet Therapy Training

Therapy dogs are trained to provide comfort and affection to people other than their handlers or owners. That could mean visiting a variety of places where people need love and affection, such as hospitals, schools, hospices, nursing homes, disaster areas, and more.

What is the difference between a Therapy Dog and an Emotional Support Dog?
A therapy dog is trained to provide comfort and affection to someone other than their handler.

Cognitive Training

This type of training teaches the dog to think and problem solve.

Cognitive dog training enlists the dog as a partner in learning; it is not about training so much as it is about teaching. It’s also about redefining human-dog relationships.

How does it differ from other approaches to dog training?

It encourages dogs to think and solve problems. Often, there is not just one singular correct response to a cue. Dogs can learn a basic cue and match it with a concept, say, retrieve. Then the cognitive dog will learn to retrieve a large variety of items. She’ll learn to find them and retrieve them from lots of places — on a table or counter, under a sofa, from a backpack or refrigerator, etc. She’ll learn to get items by name — a pen, a medicine bottle, a beer. She’ll learn to follow verbal cues, a laser pointer, or a hand signal. But it’s all based on the concept of getting an item and bringing it to the human.
